Starving writers: you are not alone! Have you ever wondered how to plea with your editor for payment tout de suite? American poet Edna St. Vincent Millay did it the classy way. Here’s her letter for an advance from the editor of Poetry magazine, in 1918 – about the time the photo above was taken.     Those shoes must have cost a bunch. They didn’t come from Payless.
