Edna St. Vincent Millay‘s shoes in the National Museum of American History (Photo: Creative Commons)
People dress and go to town;
I sit in my chair.
All my thoughts are slow and brown:
Standing up or sitting down
Little matters, or what gown
Or what shoes I wear.

I adore Edna St Vincent Millay, whose burning candle ended much too soon. The picture of her shoes is priceless — this is the debonaire, dancing lady who took The Village by storm. Thank you!
